Review of The Human Division by John Scalzi

Updated: Jul 6, 2019

“I have no idea, Jim,” Lowen said. “I’m a doctor, not a private investigator.”

“The Human Division” is the fifth book in the “Old Man’s War” series, by John Scalzi.  It is a collection of short stories which stars an ensemble cast including Harry Wilson.

First off, this is exactly the book that was needed to rescue the Old Man’s War series from the disaster that was “Zoe’s Tale’. Most of the stories in this book are good, with only a few missteps. We get to see a whole new bunch of characters dealing with the consequences of John Perry’s actions at the end of ‘The Last Colony’. The style of the stories are varied too which helps keep them fresh.

The only gripe I have is that, at this point in the series, the story keeps getting more and more generic. I miss the vibe of the first couple of books.

I recommend ‘The Human Division’ for scifi fans.
